OliviaIn September ’08 I was able to attend a Journey to the Heart. In many ways I can see how God used those ten days in preparation for the time I spent at EXCEL this past fall. I know that both the Journey and EXCEL were instrumental in deepening my relationship with God and I feel blessed to have been able to participate in them.

During each week of EXCEL, we learned many new things about who our God is, and just how much He cares for and love us as individuals. I’m so thankful for Mr. and Mrs. Bell and all the other men and women who were willing to take time out of their busy schedules just to share with us what God has done in their lives. It would be impossible for me to single out one speaker or activity as my favorite, but I will say one of the best things about EXCEL was the friendly and encouraging atmosphere that we were surrounded with each day.

Often times I find myself being content with simply learning something and not actually taking what I’ve learned and using it to benefit others that God has placed in my life. At EXCEL, I felt that God was really emphasizing the importance of sharing what He has taught me and allowing Him to use me for His purposes, not mine. (Luke 12:48: “Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”)

Another part of my life that God has been working on is the area of contentment. When I take my focus off of God it’s so easy for me to become discontent with where I am and what I am doing . . . or not doing. Since going to EXCEL, I have had a new appreciation for my family and the opportunities God has given my at this point in my life. I am constantly reminded that God has a wonderful plan for my life and all I need to do is trust Him and give all my expectations to Him. (Psalm 62:5: “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.”)
