The Apostle Paul encouraged us to view our Journey as a race when he wrote, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). What a great perspective on life!
So many excellent analogies come to mind when we start thinking about viewing our lives as a race. For example, did you know that a champion runner has two fears?
First, that he will run out of strength before he reaches the finish line. This will give his opponents the ability to spring by him and win the race.
Second, that he will have strength left over after the race. This means that he could have used this strength in the race and achieved a better timing!
“Whatever you do, put your whole heart and soul into it,
as into work done for God, and not merely for men -
knowing that your real reward, a heavenly one, will come
from God, since you are actually employed by Christ,
and not just by your earthly master”
(Colossians 3:23; J.B. Phillips translation).

Brandon and I were just reviewing pictures of runners the other day. Every time we are out jogging or see pictures of runners, it should be a reminder to us of the great race we must run as a Christian pressing toward the mark of the HIGH calling of God in Christ Jesus.
